B’desh: RpCC polls: CEC rejects BNP’s allegation

Report in Dhaka Tribune, Dec 21, 2017 at 05:14 PM
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) KM Nurul Huda on Thursday said BNP’s allegation over the Rangpur City Corporation election is baseless.
BNP at a press briefing on Thursday morning alleged that administration obstructed voters from going to the polling stations in Rangpur and polling agents also were forced out of some polling stations.
“We have gleaned information from local level. Voters did not come up with any allegation. So, the allegation does not seem to be authentic,” the CEC told reporters at Nirbachan Bhaban in Dhaka on Thursday afternoon.
Expressing satisfaction over the overall election situation, Nurul Huda said the EC planned to use EVMs (Electronic Voting Machines) in the election carefully and no problem was found in the use of EVM.
He said the voters are also satisfied using the EVMs.
“We have a plan of using EVMs also in the next local elections on a small scale. However, it will not be possible to use EVMs in the upcoming national election,” said the CEC.
