B’desh: Islami Oikya Jote demands ministers supporting SC statue step down

Report in Dhaka Tribune, June 12, 2017 at 10.04pm
Islami Oikya Jote General Secretary Mufti Foyzullah has demanded the resignation of government ministers who have supported the sculpture on the Supreme Court grounds.
In addition, he demanded human rights activist Sultana Kamal withdraw her statement about religious symbols and institutions removed from the Supreme Court grounds.
Mufti Foyzullah said: “No ‘statues’ can be erected in the country. We must get rid of all the ‘statues’ immediately. And every minister who spoke in favour of the ‘statues’ must resign. And Sultana Kamal will have no place to call home in Bangladesh.
The demands came at an iftar party on Monday at Hotel Imperial in Dhaka.
“What Sultana Kamal said in defence of the ‘statues’ and against ‘mosques’ was in violation of international conventions including UN charter. She breached the laws of our country by making such remarks,” Mufti Foyzullah said.
He further demanded legal actions be taken against Sultana Kamal.
Chairman Abdul Latif Nezami said Muslim preachers and scholars have to collaborate to defeat anti-Islamic activities and establish Islamic rule in the country.
Vice-Chairman Abul Hasanat Amini called for Islamic parties to be united and organise people for further actions http://www.dhakatribune.com/bangladesh/politics/2017/06/12/islami-oikya-jote-demands-resign/
