B’desh: EC prepares roadmap for next general polls

The Election Commission (EC) has prepared a draft roadmap for the next general elections.
EC Secretary Mohammad Abdullah said they would disclose the roadmap by May 15 after bringing some corrections to it.
He was speaking to reporters at the EC Secretariat on Sunday.
Earlier, Abdullah had told the Dhaka Tribune that the roadmap would include an updated list of voters, guidelines for consultation with stakeholders, registration of political parties, and revising the existing electoral laws. He added that there would be a work plan in the roadmap for the next two years.
The secretary also said the EC proposed holding meetings with stakeholders ahead of the election.
Election to 160 UPs
Elections to 160 Union Parishads (UPs) in different districts were held on Sunday, simultaneously from 8am to 4pm.
The EC secretary said: “Voters in the electoral areas … cast their ballots freely and safely. No incident of clashes took place during the polls.”
