Barjees Tahir says free, fair polls in GB top priority: The Frontier Post, Feb 20, 2015

Islamabad (Online): Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Barjees Tahir Thursday said that a free, fair and transparent election in Gilgit-Baltistan is his top priority.
Talking to media here, the governor said that he has taken charge of governorship of Gilgit and Baltistan by recommendations of Prime Minster Nawaz Sharif and approval of President Mamnon Hussain.
He said that his appointment as the governor has been dragged into controversy added that statement of opposition leader Khurseed Shah was very disappointing for him.
The governor said that he is committed to ensure free and fair elections in Gilgit Baltistan. “My top-most priority would be to maintain law and order situation in the area and facilitation to the caretaker government to hold elections in free, fair and transparent elections”, the governor added.
Brushing aside the criticism on his assuming the office of Governor from opposition parties, Barjees said that people would see for themselves the impartiality on his part as well as the caretaker government in holding the elections in the area in most transparent and impartial fashion. He further said that during his stay in office, he would also focus on uplifting the stand of life of people of these areas and pledged that the paucity of funds would not be the reason for delay in the ongoing uplift projects in the area.
Barjees said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif has given direction for completion of the ongoing development projects on war-footing adding that he would be stepping into the office of Governor GB with the spirit to serve the masses and to whip up the development projects facing undue delay.
He said all-out efforts will be made to promote tourism and develop the area to facilitate the people. Barjees Tahir said there is a need to endeavour for the progress and prosperity of the people of the region.http://www.thefrontierpost.com/articleprint/244374//
