Bangabandhu killer’s relative tried to supply arms to militants

Two suspected militants who were arrested in Ashulia on Sunday night were actually IED material suppliers for militant groups, said RAB sources.
Addressing a press conference yesterday, Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) Legal and Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan confirmed this.
He added that RAB had learned that the two – Md Imran Hossain alias Emran and Rafiqul Islam alias Junayed – had supplied Improvised Explosive Device (IED) materials to Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (JMB). RAB had yet to determine whether their link was with Old JMB or New JMB.
Mufti also said the two had disclosed to RAB that a close relative of one of the convicted killers of Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman had contacted them, attempting to supply them with weapons and ammunition.
Refusing to name the person, Mufti stated that RAB was still looking into the matter and trying to collect more information about that person.
The RAB media wing chief, however, hypothesised that the relative of Bangabandhu’s killer was possibly trying to destabilise the country by funding militancy.
The two arrested had also told RAB that the Arakan Rohingya terrorist group had tried to contact them and, disclosing this information, Mufti said RAB was also investigating this claim.
According to RAB, Imran joined Harkat-ul Jihad al-Islami Bangladesh (HujiB) in 2001. He was trained in Mymensingh and later transferred to Chittagong. His job was to collect finances for the organisation. In 2014, he joined JMB and began collecting the explosive supplies being sent to Chittagong from Dhaka and distributing them among the Chittagong militant dens.
Although Rafiqul is originally from Netrakona, he is a resident of Chittagong. He too was involved with HujiB and was trained in Chittagong. There, he met and befriended Imran.
In 2015, Imran convinced Rafiqul to join JMB. Aside from being a teacher at a madrasa, Rafiqul began supervising the female militants who were used for the distribution of explosive device materials to local JMB bomb-making camps where the IEDs were assembled.
According to RAB media chief Mufti, Rafiqul’s second wife had been arrested by RAB earlier. He added that RAB was currently engaged in locating the Chittagong militant camps.http://www.dhakatribune.com/bangladesh/crime/2017/05/08/bangabandhu-killers-relative-supply-arms-militants/
