Badakhshan Forces Await Orders From Central Government by Namatullah Ahmadi in Tolo News, Sept 28, 2016

Security officials in Badakhshan said on Wednesday they will destroy militants’ hideouts in the province in a short time if they receive orders from Kabul.

The officials said Taliban militants are not able to fight face-to-face against security forces.

“We are not in an a defensive mode. We have put pressure on the insurgents in Badakhshan,” said Badakhshan Police Chief Ghulam Sakhi Ghafoori.

“Taliban carried out two large attacks against us but they were defeated. Now government must let us to chase them and eliminate them from Jurm, Yamgan and Warduj districts,” said Jurm district’s police chief Mohammad Amin.
Meanwhile, Badakhshan Provincial Council members said security forces are in an offensive mode and that it is a good opportunity to destroy militants in the province.

“The ability and courage of the security forces is evident. They will soon eliminate the Taliban in Badakhshan therefore we call on the central government to give order to the military forces to attack the insurgents,” said Jawid Mujaddidi, member of Badakhshan Provincial Council.

TOLOnews reporter Nematullah Ahmadi, who visited Jurm district, says Taliban carried out two large attacks in the district but were defeated by security forces.

He said that according to local officials, more than 1,000 insurgents took part in the attack in the district.

Sediqullah, a police officer in Jurm meanwhile said militants are still active in parts of the district.
