The National Security Adviser Mohammad Hanif Atmar left for China to meet with the country’s officials to discuss bilateral strategic ties as well as Beijing’s support to Afghan security forces, peace process, and relations with Pakistan.
The Office of the National Security Adviser in a statement said Atmar will meet with Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Geng Huichang, Minister of State Security, Meng Jianzhu, mem of Political Bureau of Central Committee of Communist Party of China and Sec Political & Legal Affairs of CCCP.
The statement further added that Atmar will also meet with Fang Fenghui,Chief of General Staff of People’s Liberation Army & Member of the Central Military Commission of China.
The visit by Atmar comes as reports emerged earlier that the Afghan government will hand over a military equipment wish list to China.
The defense officials said earlier last month that a committee has been established to identify the needs of the Afghan forces.
Work on preparation of the wish list reportedly started following a visit by senior Chinese officials to Kabul last month.
During a meeting with Fang Fenghui, chief of China’s People’s Liberation Army, the National Security Adviser, Hanif Atmar, requested Beijing’s support to Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF).
The Office of the National Security Adviser said earlier that Mr. Atmar requested Mr. Fenghui to provide the Afghan forces with military aids, including transport and logistics planes, mobile radars, military uniform, etc.
