ASI martyred in fire exchange at Duki checkpoint

QUETTA: A police officer was martyred and another man was injured in a heavy exchange of fire with unknown armed men who were traveling in a car in Duki area of Balochistan on Monday.

“The firing incident took place at the eastern bypass, a locality on the outskirts of Duki town,” SSP Duki district Syed Abdul Saboor Agha said.

He said when a police party, headed by Assistant Sub-Inspector Muhammad Saleem, posted at a checkpoint in the area tried to stop a suspected vehicle, people sitting in the car opened fire with automatic weapons, triggering an exchange of fire.

In the ensuing encounter, the police officer suffered multiple gunshots and embraced martyrdom while another man was injured. However, the attackers managed to flee.

Police rushed to the spot after the incident, cordoned off the area and shifted the body and the injured to Duki district hospital.

The martyred officer belongs to Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.

Police claimed it was an attempt to steal solar panels as 14 solar panels were found in the area while an AK-47 rifle and magazine were also recovered from the area.
