ANP seeks probe into ‘resettlement’ of terrorists

Report  in Dawn, June 4th, 2023

PESHAWAR: Awami National Party has urged the federal government to order a judicial probe into the ‘resettlement’ of terrorists in the country and award punishment to those involved in the ‘heinous’ crime.

ANP provincial president Amil Wali Khan in a letter to Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif demanded constitution of a high-level committee headed by the Peshawar High Court chief justice to investigate the process of resettlement of terrorists, especially in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, according to a statement issued here on Saturday.

He demanded making public all the agreements made with terrorists. He insisted peace had been restored in the province due to sacrifices of law enforcers and ANP workers, but the law and order situation was again disturbed during the previous government of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.

“Before the 2013 elections, Hakimullah Mehsud, a leader of banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, had announced he would only accept the government of PTI and Jamaat-i-Islami, and that was why PTI and Jamaat were given government in KP,” the ANP leader claimed.

He said the “TTP-PTI alliance” continued in the 2018 elections as well and PTI was given a majority in the province once again. He declared ANP had exposed this nexus at every available forum.

He alleged the former KP governor and ministers were paying allowances to the terrorists from the public treasury. He said former prime minister Imran Khan and CM’s adviser Barrister Saif had admitted having brought back terrorists from Afghanistan. “The people have once again been left at the mercy of terrorists. “The federal government should announce a judicial inquiry under the Inquiry Act, 2017,” the ANP leader reiterated. https://www.dawn.com/news/1757768/anp-seeks-probe-into-resettlement-of-terrorists
