ANP asks Centre to remove reservations about CPEC By Mushtaq Paracha in The News, Oct 8, 2016

NOWSHERA: Awami National Party (ANP) general secretary Mian Iftikhar Hussain on Friday urged the federal government to remove the reservations of the smaller federating units over the multi-billion China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC).

Speaking at a public meeting here, the nationalist leader asked the Centre to give due share to the smaller provinces in the CPEC.

He said that the federal government had promised in the All Parties Conference to launch development work on the Western alignment of the project and complete it on priority basis.

He said the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif himself had announced to address the grievances of the smaller provinces on CPEC and provide all the incentives to the Western route. “But the things seems to be going in the opposite direction,” he added.

He said that the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government had earlier expressed satisfaction over the project but now it expressed reservations about the project.

The ANP leader accused the provincial government of negligence to secure Khyber Pakhtunkhwa rights in the fortune changer project. He said the province played the frontline role in the war against terrorism and suffered huge financial loses in this fight.

He said the eastern route of the project had been built and “now the federal government should construct the western alignment to give the smaller provinces their due rights in the project.”

Mian Iftikhar said that ANP would not make any compromise on the rights of the province in the multi-billion development project.

Criticising the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) chief, he said that there was a contradiction in the words and deeds of Imran Khan.

He said that the PTI participated in the all parties conference convened by the Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif but boycotted the joint session of the Parliament, which he said, was beyond his comprehension.

The ANP leader said the PTI boycott of the joint session of the Parliament gave out a wrong message. Mian Iftikhar said that the issue of Kalabagh dam was a dead horse. He said it was disappointing that some people were trying to relive the issue. https://www.thenews.com.pk/print/155741-ANP-asks-Centre-to-remove-reservations-about-CPEC
