ANP announces protests to push for CPEC western route; REPORT in Dawn October 4th, 2016

TIMERGARA/BATKHELA: Awami National Party will arrange protest demonstration in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Sindh and Balochistan against federal government for not starting work on western route of China-Pakistan Economic Corridor project.

Talking to a group of local journalists at his residence in Odigram, Lower Dir on Sunday, ANP information secretary Zahid Khan that the protest in Peshawar would be held on Tuesday (today).

He said that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif had promised during an all-party conference and later during a meeting with ANP chief Asfandyar Wali Khan that all provinces would be equally benefited from CPEC project.

Mr Khan said that despite lapse of several months, work was not started on western route of CPEC that guaranteed economic development of backward areas of the country.

Zahid Khan says demonstration in Peshawar to be held today
“Mian Nawaz Sharif thinks that only Punjab is entire Pakistan,” said the ANP leader. He added that ANP would go to any extent to fight for the rights of Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan.

About tension on Pakistan’s eastern border, Mr Khan said that war was no solution to the problem. He said that both India and Pakistan were atomic powers and nearly 1.5 billion people would be at risk in case of war between the two countries. “Both the countries should demonstrate patience and tolerance,” he added.

The ANP leader said that Pakistan was facing isolation in the comity of nations owing to its failed foreign policy. The refusal of Bangladesh, Afghanistan and other countries to attend the SAARC summit in Islamabad was an evidence of it, he added.

Mr Khan alleged that Provincial Minister Shahram Tarakai and Senator Liaquat Tarakai owned 35 offshore companies. He said one of the JI ministers was involved in Khyber Bank scandal but he was given clean chit.

Meanwhile, ANP provincial president Ameer Haider Khan Hoti told a public meeting in Thana area of Malakand that all contentious issues should be resolved with the neighbouring countries through talks.

“Pakhtun nation would be at the receiving end owing to lack of trust in the relations between Pakistan and Afghanistan,” he said.

He said that PTI chief Imran Khan was not sincere with Pakhtun nation rather he wanted to become prime minister by using the Pakhtun card.

Mr Hoti said that ANP sacrificed more than 800 workers in the fight against terrorism and for restoration of peace. He said that CPEC was a mega project but Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan were deprived of its benefits.

“Prime Minister Mian Nawaz Sharif has not honoured the decision taken in the multi-party conference on CPEC,” he added.http://www.dawn.com/news/1287907/anp-announces-protests-to-push-for-cpec-western-route
