Analysts Accuse HPC Of Incompetence by Sayed Sharif Amiri in Tolo News, Mar 30, 2016

A number of analysts have lashed out at the High Peace Council (HPC) for what they say is incompetence. They said the only thing the council has done is spend money.

Mohammad Abda, Chairman of the Judicial Commission of the Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament), blasted the HPC for its incompetence.

“The HPC, since starting to work, was not able to account to the people in Afghanistan about the money that they have spent,” he said.

Sayed Ali Kazimi, a lawmaker, stressed the need for inclusive reforms in the council.

This comes after the HPC’s spokesman, Shahzada Shahid, recently said during a TOLOnews current affairs show, Tawde Khabare, that some key members of the council are being paid by foreign embassies. He added that the council was paying $3.5 million USD to a TV channel in order for them to broadcast HPC related news.

However, Mohammad Ismail Qasimyar, the HPC’s advisor on international affairs, said that the council had recorded tangible achievements in the past.

“Had 12,000 militants not joined the peace process and each had killed one person, then 12,000 people would not have been alive anymore. This is an achievement,” he said.

The annual budget of the HPC is $3 million USD. The council said that it has collected 13,000 weapons from militants so far.http://www.tolonews.com/en/afghanistan/24499-analysts-accuse-hpc-of-incompetence
