report in Dhaka Tribune, Jan 8, 2018
The High Court has granted anticipatory bail to Daily Amar Desh acting editor Mahmudur Rahman in 10 separate cases – all of them filed on sedition and defamation charges.
The bench of Justice Md Miftah Uddin Choudhury and Justice Abu Taher Md Saifur Rahman on Sunday issued the orders of bail in presence of Mahmudur.
Afterwards, his lawyer barrister Tanvir Ahmed Al Amin told reporters that the cases were filed in several districts over the same charges.
He said the court granted Mahmudur bail after hearing 10 bail petitions filed by Mahmudur in the cases.
Meanwhile, the state counsel said they would move the Appellate Division against the High Court order granting Mahmudur bail in several of the 10 cases.
A total of 31 cases were lodged in different districts against the Amar Desh acting editor after he made “derogatory remarks” about Bangabandhu Sheikh Mujibur Rahman and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina at a program in Dhaka on December 1 last year. http://www.dhakatribune.com/bangladesh/court/2018/01/08/amar-desh-mahmudur-bail-sedition-cases/
