ALP Commander Calls For Govt’s Support To Clear Ghorband Of Militants An Afghanistan by Tamim Hamid in Tolo News, Mar 18,2016 18:32

Local Police (ALP) commander, who was seriously wounded in a suicide blast in Parwan recently, has appealed to government to pay more attention to security in Ghorband valley of the province.

Khawaja Mohammad Moshtaq said that there are only 300 militants in the valley. He added that security forces with the support of central government can easily clear Ghorband of militants.

Moshtaq, commander of 150 local police members, sustained injuries in a suicide attack on February 22 in Ghorband valley. He was the main target.

He underwent several weeks of treatment in Bagram.

“[Local policemen] captured the suicide bomber and when they wanted to lay him on the ground, he detonated his explosives,” Moshtaq said.

On the issue of problems in Ghorband valley he said: “The main problem is that all officials in the districts [in Ghorband valley] are being appointed by a single person.”

He added that government sees Ghorband from this one person’s perspective only.

Moshtaq, whose feet were badly injured in the attack, has slowly started recovering and the 40-year-old commander has now regained enough strength to stand. He said as soon as he has recovered enough he will return to fight militants in Ghorband.http://www.tolonews.com/en/afghanistan/24296-alp-commander-calls-for-govts-support-to-clear-ghorband-of-militants-an-afghanistan
