Aimal questions govt action against Afghans

Report in Dawn, October 8th, 2023
CHARSADDA: Awami National Party provincial president Aimal Wali Khan came down hard on Pervez Khattak, the chief of newly-formed Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf Parliamentarians (PTI-P), insisting he was the most known turncoat in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa’s politics.

He was speaking at a party’s workers’ convention in PK-65 constituency here on Saturday.

ANP district president Shakeel Bashir Khan Umarzai, candidate for PK-65 Shahzaduddin, and member of the party’s central committee Qasim Ali Khan also addressed the convention.

Aimal Wali said conspiracies had been hatched against the Pakhtuns since partition to deprive them of their rights and resources. “Whenever we raised voice for our rights, accusations and Fatwas were levelled against us, but we will continue to fight for our due rights,” said the ANP leader. He said if came to power the ANP would fully implement the 18th Amendment. “We respect everyone, but we will continue to tell the truth within the bounds of respect,” he said.

About the Apex Committee’s decision on the eviction of Afghan refugees, Aimal Wali questioned in what capacity the caretaker government was making decisions regarding the Afghan refugees. He said that the task and mandate of the caretaker government was to hold transparent elections only.

He said that it seemed from the government’s actions that the decisions were made somewhere else using the name of the caretaker government. “If you are worried about Afghan refugees, then make the same policy for all refugees. If Afghan refugees do not have the right to live here, then the refugees from Kashmir and India also do not have the right to live here,” he added.
