PESHAWAR: A prominent rights group on Thursday asked Pakistan to immediately disclose the whereabouts of an activist who authorities acknowledged was being held on a treason charge months after his disappearance.
Idris Khattak, who worked for both Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch, went missing along with his driver on Nov 13 last year. Later, his driver told his family that Mr Khattak was taken by unidentified men from his car while they were travelling in the country’s northwest region.
The request for information came from Amnesty International. In June, the defence ministry responded to his family’s complaint. It told a court that Mr Khattak was in custody and faced a treason charge.
Omar Waraich, the head of South Asia at Amnesty International, in a statement on Thursday said that the authorities must end the intolerable situation by disclosing Mr Khattak’s whereabouts and allowing him regular access to his family and lawyer.https://www.dawn.com/news/1590132/ai-seeks-whereabouts-of-missing-activist
