Nasir Ahmad Faieq, the acting representative of Afghanistan at the United Nations, has expressed grave concern about the situation of Afghan migrants. He called for “serious” attention to their condition in neighbouring countries.
Mr Faieq voiced his concerns about the situation of Afghan migrants in neighbouring countries during Wednesday’s United Nations session on growth and the protection of human rights.
He added that Afghan migrants and refugees in neighbouring countries, especially those without documents, face unfavourable conditions and need serious attention.
Mr. Faieq further emphasized the situation of women in Afghanistan. He pointed out that due to the repressive policies of the Taliban, women and girls are subjected to gender discrimination and sexual apartheid, depriving them of fundamental rights such as education and employment.
According to Mr. Faieq, many undocumented Afghan migrants in Pakistan who are illegally present require essential services, including healthcare, education, and legal employment.
The acting representative of Afghanistan at the United Nations also noted that many migrant children are not allowed to attend school, and their families cannot afford the cost of education.
Furthermore, Mr. Faieq called for serious attention to the collective and systematic punishment of the Hazara community.
These concerns come when international reactions regarding the forced deportation of Afghan migrants from Pakistan continue to unfold.
