Afghan intelligence conducted over 2,000 raids in 2015: Andarabi KHAAMA PRESS, Jan 09 2016, 1:47 pm

The Afghan intelligence operatives conducted around 2,200 counter-terrorism raids across the country in 2015 and thwarted major terrorist attack plots by the anti-government armed militant groups.

The acting Afghan Intelligence – National Directorate of Security (NDS) Chief Masoud Andarabi told reporters during the general session of the parliament that the Afghan intelligence operatives eliminated at least 14 terrorist groups during the same period.

Andarabi was summoned along with the other top government officials by the Afghan lawmakers to brief the house regarding the deteriorating security situation of the country.

He said some of the major strategies of the anti-government armed militant groups were also thwarted by the Afghan forces.

Andarabi further added that the militant groups were looking to execute their strategies in some of the volatile provinces, including northern Kunduz, eastern Nangarhar, southern Helmand provinces.

In regards to threats posed by the emergent loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group in Afghanistan, Andarabi said the Afghan security institutions are closely working to ascertain the roots of the terror group, insisting that the extremist group has links outside the country.

The remarks by Andarabi comes as the loyalists of the terror group have recently increased their insurgency activities and anti-government propaganda besides terrorizing the residents of eastern parts of the country as they aim to establish a regional base in eastern Nangarhar province.

Meanwhile, the acting defense minister Masoom Stanikzai said last week that a battalion consisting of 750 personnel of the Afghan army has been formed to suppress the insurgency activities of the ISIS loyalists in the country.
