KABUL– The Ministry of Foreign Affairs “strongly denies’ the allegations regarding use of Afghan soil for terrorism, after Pakistan in a press conference Saturday has accused Indian government of running a number of training camps in Afghanistan on globally outlawed militant groups.
While Afghanistan itself is major victim of terrorism for decades, the government in a statement Sunday, called such an allegation “baseless”, as officials reviewed the Saturday press conference thoroughly.
“The Government of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan explicitly declares, as a major victim of terrorism, we are committed to a policy of combating all forms of terrorism around the world without discrimination…,” the MoFA in a statement.
“…And will never allow Afghan territory to be used for destructive activities against other countries,” the statement added.
Concerning peace and stability in the region, Afghanistan aspires to become the center of regional and international cooperation based on common interest, mainly in the fight against terrorism, said the MoFA.
“The most important priority in foreign policy of Afghan government is to become the center of regional and international cooperation based on common interests, especially in the fight against terrorism, and to play a favorable role in ensuring security and economic prosperity in the region,” the statement read……
Neither Indian officials nor the Afghan government have immediately commented on the Pakistani allegations, although both New Delhi and Kabul have denied similar allegations in the past.
Michael Kugelman, deputy director Asia program at Washington’s Wilson Center, observed that “Pakistan’s allegations about Indian-sponsored terror aren’t new at all.”
“They’ve been made for years. What is new is providing more detail on the allegations and placing these details squarely in the public (and global) eye,” Kugelman said in a tweet.
