The chargés d’affaires of Afghanistan’s embassy in Islamabad, Sardar Ahmad Shakib, said that he discussed cooperation and the expansion of ties between Kabul and Islamabad in a meeting with Asif Ali Khan Durrani, the new representative of Pakistan in Afghanistan affairs.
According to this Islamic Emirate official, Durrani has experience in Afghan affairs, and his appointment will enhance ties between Kabul and Islamabad.
The chargés d’affaires of Afghanistan’s embassy in Islamabad added that during the meeting they also talked about the resolving visa issues for Afghans.
“Although the relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan are good, both sides confirmed that they should be strengthened. And the problems that exist, we will try to find a solution for them. I think that Asif Durrani has good experience in Afghanistan affairs,” Shakib said.
According to some analysts, Pakistan should stop its dual policy and change its approach toward Afghanistan in order to improve ties between Kabul and Islamabad.
“Pakistan needs to change its policy of destruction, weakening, and subversion in Afghanistan in order to strengthen and expand relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan,” said Noorullah Raghi, a former diplomat.
“If he has optimistic views on Afghanistan, he can help Afghanistan and enhance ties between the two countries,” said Sayed Akbar Agha, a political analyst.
Asif Ali Khan Durrani was appointed Pakistan’s special envoy for Afghanistan by the prime minister last week, according to a statement from the foreign ministry of Pakistan.
Previously, Durrani served as Pakistan’s ambassador to Iran, the United Arab Emirates, and as the deputy of Pakistan’s embassy in Afghanistan
