Active member of Ansar al-Islam held in Kalapara

The Anti Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Bangladesh Police arrested an active member of the banned militant organisation ‘Ansar al-Islam’ from Kalapara in Patuakhali on Sunday morning.

The arrestee is identified as Abdur Rahman, 36, son of Late Jabbar Munshi, hailed from Rahamatpur area of Kalapara municipality.

Sources said a team, led by Assistant Sub Inspector of Anti Terrorism Unit (ATU) Abdur Rahim Chawdhury, conducted a raid in Rahamatpur area of the municipality and arrested Rahman.

They also seized four mobile phones, six SIM cards, three SD cards, two extremist books, and 78 pages of digital evidence from his procession.

Sources said Rahman had been promoting extremism, terrorism, and the ideology of Jasim Uddin Rahmani, the leader of Ansar-al Islam, using multiple IDs, including MA Rahman Mujahid, on Facebook for long time.

A case under the Anti-Terrorism Act has been filed against Abdur Rahman with a police station. Later, he was sent to jail after being produced before a court on Sunday noon.
