Authorities of the Islamic Emirate said that they have begun negotiations with Pakistani officials to find solutions for the stranded transit goods of Afghan traders in Karachi port.
Acting Minister of Industry and Commerce Noorudin Azizi, leading a delegation to Pakistan, met with the country’s caretaker foreign minister and discussed the safe conveyance of Afghan returnees’ goods, reads a statement of the Embassy of Afghanistan in Islamabad.
“There are hopes that the visit will be fruitful, which will solve both the issue of the stranded transit goods of Afghan traders and the transfer of goods of Afghan refugees coming to Afghanistan,” said Zabiullah Mujahid, the spokesman for the Islamic Emirate.
Officials at the Ministry of Industry and Commerce also said that the first meeting of the acting minister while in Pakistan was aimed at finding solutions for the commercial goods stranded in Karachi port.
“In the meeting with the acting foreign minister of Pakistan, the acting minister of industry and commerce discussed the over 3,000 containers of goods of Afghan traders stopped by Pakistan in Karachi,” said Akhundzada Abdul Salam Jawad.
The visiting delegation to Pakistan also includes representatives of the Chamber of Commerce and Investment.
“We expect the Afghan delegation to convince the Pakistani side to releasing the stranded goods of Afghan traders in Karachi and allow for the transfer of goods of Afghan refugees,” said the head of the secretariat of the chamber.
“On which issues the Pakistani side agree, depends on the bilateral negotiations. We expect the visit of the Afghan delegation to be fruitful,” said Khan Muhammad Sarfarz Baz, head of the secretariat of the chamber of commerce and investment.
Amid tensions between Afghanistan and Pakistan, thousands of containers of goods of Afghan traders have been stopped in Pakistan and a mass expulsion of Afghan refugees from Pakistan has begun.
