Deadly bus explosion in Kabul kills seven: Police

By Fidel Rahmati in Khaama Press Online, November 7, 2023
Seven people died, and 20 others were injured in a bus explosion in the Afghan capital on Tuesday, as reported by the police.

According to Kabul police spokesman Khalid Zadran, the explosion took place in the Dasht-e-Barchi neighbourhood of the capital. This area is known for being home to the historically marginalized Shia Hazara community.

An explosion occurred in a bus carrying civilian passengers in the Dasht-e-Barchi area of Kabul, resulting in the unfortunate loss of seven lives and injuries to 20 others, according to Zadran shared on social media X.

Security personnel were present at the scene and had initiated an investigation into the incident, as Zadran added.

It’s worth noting that a deadly explosion occurred in a sports club in the same neighbourhood, which ISIS claimed in late October. In that previous incident, Taliban authorities confirmed four fatalities and seven injuries.

Since the Taliban assumed power in August 2021, there has been a significant reduction in the number of bomb blasts and suicide attacks. However, various armed groups, including ISIS, continue to pose a threat in the country.
