The head of the Ministry of Defense of Afghanistan criticized Pakistan’s treatment of Afghan migrants, stating that Islamabad should consider the consequences of its unilateral decision regarding migrants.
Mohammad Yaqub Mujahid, the head of the Ministry of Defense, called on Islamabad to cease the harassment, mistreatment, and confiscation of Afghan migrants’ properties in the country, as such actions have no legal basis.
He stated, “The Pakistani regime must be prepared to face the consequences of its actions and bear the responsibility for the harm it inflicts.” He also emphasized that the Taliban administration is closely monitoring Pakistan’s treatment of migrants.
According to him, Afghan citizens are suffering injustice at the borders and roads, and this must be stopped immediately. He urged the international community, the United Nations, and charitable organizations to demand that Pakistan end the current situation for migrants.
Yaqub Mujahid warned that this situation will affect the relations between Afghanistan and Pakistan because Pakistan’s unilateral and oppressive decision is unacceptable to the interim administration of Afghanistan.
It is worth noting that with the ending of the one-month deadline given by Pakistan to migrants without legal residency in the country, thousands of migrants are being forcibly and voluntarily returned to Afghanistan through the Torkham and Spin Boldak crossings.
These migrants are returning to the country on the brink of the cold winter season, facing the daunting prospect of starting anew in Afghanistan with numerous needs and limited resources.
