The Islamic Republic of Iran has announced its intention to establish a medical facility named after Qasem Soleimani in Kandahar, Afghanistan.
According to Iran’s Fars News Agency, quoting Javad Karimi Ghodoosi, a representative of the Iranian Parliament, the country plans to set up a medical facility in the province of Kandahar, named after the former commander of the Quds Force of the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps.
The facility is reportedly ready for operation, as stated by the Fars News Agency.
The acting government in Afghanistan has not made any statements on this matter so far.
Previously, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the Taliban administration had announced that a seven-member delegation from the Iranian Parliament had met and held discussions with Amir Khan Muttaqi, the acting head of the ministry.
Iran announced establishing a hospital in Kandahar when Afghanistan’s citizens have a long history of travelling to neighbouring countries for medical treatment.
Over the past 20 years, Afghan citizens have travelled to Pakistan, Iran, and India for medical care as part of Afghanistan’s medical and treatment process.
Despite the substantial international aid directed towards healthcare in Afghanistan, including millions of dollars, Afghan patients, even for treatable conditions within their own country, have often chosen to travel to neighbouring countries due to a lack of medical facilities and trust in their local healthcare system.
