report in The Daily Star, Aug 12, 2023
Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime (CTTC) unit of Dhaka Metropolitan Police arrested 10 people — four male and six women — from a “militant hideout” in the remote hilly area of Kulaura in Moulvibazar today.

They also had three children with them, Mohammad Asaduzzaman, chief of the specialised unit, told the media after the operation.

“We had information that a new extremist group had radicalised a large number of people. Those people have left their homes for hizrat. Initially, we had information that they had set up their hideout in one of the hills of Moulvibazar. We got the final information yesterday,” he said.

“Earlier, we arrested a man in Dhaka when he was planning to take his family there,” Asaduzzaman said.

About today’s drive, he said they also conducted a search of the “militant hideout” and recovered around 3kg explosives and 50 detonators.

“Besides, Tk 3.61 lakh, training materials, combat boots, boxing bags and several sacks of jihadi books have been seized,” he said.

Responding to a question, he said, “This is a new organisation named ‘Imam Mahmuder Kafela’. It is not included in the list of banned terrorist organisations in Bangladesh. We have also got the name of the key person of this organisation. We will continue our drives.” https://www.thedailystar.net/news/bangladesh/crime-justice/news/10-held-moulvibazar-militant-hideout-explosives-recovered-3392326
