Acting Foreign Minister Amir Khan Muttaqi, heading a delegation, left Kabul for Qatar on Saturday afternoon to meet with US officials on a range of issues, said MoFA deputy spokesman Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal.
Takal said on Twitter that Muttaqi will discuss ending sanctions and blacklists, releasing Afghanistan’s bank reserves, and stopping violations of Afghanistan’s airspace.
Wahid Faqiri, a political analyst, said that the US officials will probably ask the interim Afghan government to bring changes to their policies.
“I think the main objective is the US warning the Taliban to tell them to change their policies and bring reforms, otherwise the US stance will be tougher than now,” he said.
“We hope these meetings bring good achievements to attract attention to the humanitarian and current situation of Afghanistan,” said Ahmad Khan Andar, international relations analyst.
Earlier, the US Department of State said that US special envoy for Afghanistan, Thomas West and US special envoy for Afghan women, girls and human rights will visit Astana and Doha. In Doha, the statement said, they will meet with the Taliban officials.
