Iran FM: Security Challenges in Afghanistan Will Effect Region, World

Iranian Foreign Minister Hossein Amir-Abdollahian said that if the international community does not pay serious attention to the security challenges caused by the “movements of terrorist groups” in Afghanistan, its negative impact will affect the region and the world.

Hossein Amir-Abdollahian, in a meeting with Feridun Sinirlioğlu, Special Coordinator of the UN, discussed the importance of forming an inclusive government and fighting terrorism in Afghanistan, Iran’s foreign ministry said.

Iran’s Foreign Ministry in a statement quoted Hossein Amir-Abdollahian saying that “Afghanistan needs urgent solutions and if the international community does not pay serious attention to the security challenges of this country caused by the movements of terrorist groups, its negative consequences will affect the region and the world.”

Iran’s foreign minister also emphasized the need to support regional initiatives to help solve Afghanistan’s challenges.

In this meeting, Feridun Sinirlioğlu also stressed the need to support regional initiatives and the framework of neighbors to help form an inclusive government in Afghanistan.

Meanwhile, Hassan Kazemi Qomi, the ambassador of Iran to Afghanistan said that the countries of the region agree to cooperate and interact with the Taliban, to fight against terrorism and drugs.

Hassan Kazemi Qomi, in the meeting with Feridun Sinirlioğlu, Special Coordinator of the UN, once again emphasized the formation of an inclusive government in Afghanistan and discussed UN support for regional initiatives on the issue of Afghanistan.

Hassan Kazemi Qomi said they also mentioned solving the health and educational challenges of Afghan refugees in Iran.

So far, the Islamic Emirate has not said anything in response to these statements but repeatedly denied the presence of terrorist groups, including Daesh and Al-Qaeda, in Afghanistan.
