Taliban’s Supreme Court has announced that four people including a woman were publicly flogged for allegedly accused of committing “immorality” in the Paghman district of Kabul city.
According to a news release, these people were arrested from the Kargha area of Kabul, adding the Taliban officials sentenced the convicts to three months imprisonment.
Taliban’s Supreme Court on Wednesday, July 12, in a press release stated that after the verdict was issued, Taliban officials publicly lashed criminals in the Paghman district court in the presence of government officials and some common people.
Each convict was sentenced to twenty lashes and one-month imprisonment, the news release stated
After seizing power in August 2021, the Taliban regime resumed practicing physical punishment among the ordinary people, which was abandoned over the past twenty years in Afghanistan.
Human Rights advocacy groups have repeatedly stated in their reports that convicts do not have access to a legal and standardized judicial system in Afghanistan under the Taliban-run administration. Therefore, the process of fair judgment is faced with immense challenges in the country.
Many human rights organizations have condemned the physical punishment of convicts by Taliban officials.
Meanwhile, the ruling regime is accused of committing human rights violations in many cases, particularly banning Afghan women and girls from attending education, work or public engagements.
However, the Taliban-run administration has its own policies and priorities regarding the internal matters of Afghanistan, and barely prioritizes other stakeholders’ interests.
