Elite British soldiers from SAS units operating in Afghanistan between 2010 and 2013, may have killed at least 80 Afghan civilians, according to a UK-based research center.
The results of the law firm Leigh Day, which was recently published, indicate that only one soldier of the British special force may have killed 35 Afghans in a period of six-month, and all the victims were civilians.
The lawyers of the victim families claim that at least in 30 suspicious incidents, more than 80 Afghan nationals were killed between 2010 and 2013, according to Guardian. However, no independent research has been conducted about these suspicious murders in Afghanistan.
The military presence of foreign forces led by NATO in Afghanistan ended after two decades and the return of the Taliban in 2021. Although there were accusations of war crimes by foreign troops in Afghanistan before, the research process has increased in this regard in the last two years.
Afghans were often killed after allegedly producing weapons when separated from their wider family by SAS soldiers, but there were five incidents where the number shot dead exceeded the number of weapons found, according to the Guardian.
In search of Taliban fighters, Elite British soldiers from the SAS unit routinely raided family compounds, often at night time, who are accused of killing many Afghan civilians.
The UK’s long and bloody military deployment in the southern Helmand province of Afghanistan ended in 2014, where British soldiers may have committed war crimes, according to research findings.
