The Ministry of Defense said that hundreds of pieces of military equipment that were illegally kept by individuals have been retaken.

A spokesman for the MoD, Enayatullah Khwarizimi, said that the process of collecting government vehicles has also been kicked off.

“This is a process that is ongoing. A while ago, in the western zone in Herat, the 207 corps captured a lot of such equipment including vehicles which were held by irresponsible people,” he said.

“The weapons are being collected from both responsible and irresponsible individuals. Several days ago, 201 Khalid Corps collected in Laghman and Nangarhar between 100 to 200 weapons and handed them over to the relevant commission,” he added.

Military veterans praised the process of collecting military equipment from individuals keeping it illegally.

“It is better that a date should be determined. If the individuals and groups do not hand over the weapons on time, they should be punished,” said Asadullah Nadim, a military veteran.

The residents of Kabul also called on the Islamic Emirate to attempt to maintain the military equipment.

“Anywhere a serious problem happens, it is due to these people, and (these weapons) should be collected,” a resident said.

“The military and civilians should be differentiated. Only the military people should have the rights to use military equipment,” a resident said.

This comes as several US reports said the military left equipment worth over $7 billion in Afghanistan.
