The shopkeepers in Kocha-e-Anteek Foroshi in Kabul– where unique materials are being sold—have expressed concerns over a drop in their business.
They said that the number of their clients has been significantly reduced over the past two-years.
TOLOnews interviewed several shopkeepers of Kocha Anteek Foroshi, which is located Shahar-e-Naw of Kabul.
Abdul Matin, 50, has been working at this market for the past 18 years.
“We are obliged to sell our materials at half price if the clients insist. Some of the money which we saved in the past, is now being used up,” he said.
“They (people) sell (materials) due to poverty… If we see that we have good selling in the market, we purchase it from them,” said Abdul Baseer, a shopkeeper.
Kocha-e- Anteek Foroshi used to be called Chicken Street, and is where ancient materials and crafts including decorations such as carpets are being sold.
According to the shopkeepers, some of the materials are thousands of years old.
