The outlawed Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan and Baloch separatist groups are using the US weapons left in Afghanistan for militancy in Pakistan, a report said by an international media outlet.
According to a report by Radio Free Europe, after the withdrawal of the US from Afghanistan, it left behind military equipment and weapons worth $7 billion, which later boosted the military power of Pakistan’s outlawed militant groups.
The report also stated that the TTP and Baloch separatist groups were fighting insurrections against the government in Pakistan, which has seen an increase in violence over the previous two years, utilizing US arms and equipment.
The US reportedly left behind weapons and equipment, including firearms, communications equipment, and armoured vehicles, giving the militants access to a “huge war chest.”
Several reports said that since the ceasefire between TTP and the Pakistan government ended on last November, the group had intensified its attacks on several major provinces of the country, including Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Balochistan and Punjab.
The Pakistan Institute of Peace Studies (PIPS), an Islamabad-based think tank, claims that there were 27% more terrorist attacks in Pakistan in 2022 than in 2021.
The militant groups had more than 261 terrorist attacks during 2022, in which 419 people were killed, and 734 were injured, the report said.
However, the de facto government in Afghanistan has rejected the claims that the TTP and other militant groups boosted by the US weapons and equipment and reiterated that their government would not allow any group to use Afghan soil against neighbouring countries, including Pakistan.
