A report by US-based independent watchdog group Freedom House, Bangladesh saw an improvement in the situation of political rights and civil liberties in 2022, compared to the previous year.
According to the 2023 edition of the report Bangladesh stood under the category of “partly free” with an overall score of 40 out of 100 under the section “Global Freedom Score”.
The report, titled “Freedom in the World 2023: Marking 50 Years in the Struggle for Democracy”, is the 50th edition of Freedom House’s yearly evaluation of political rights and civil freedoms around the world.
Bangladesh scored 15 out of 40 in the political rights category and 25 out of 60 in the civil liberties category.
The 2023 edition of the report which was published on Thursday covers developments in 195 countries and 15 territories from January 1, 2022, through December 31, 2022.
Freedom House rates people’s access to political rights and civil liberties in 210 countries and territories through its annual Freedom in the World report.
