At least 10 students were confirmed dead and many others were injured following an explosion at the Al-Jihadi seminary in the provincial capital of Samangan, in northern Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Interior’s spokesperson, Abdul Nafi Takor, tweeted that 10 students were killed and dozens more were injured as a result of the explosion on Wednesday afternoon, November 30.

According to the Interior Ministry official, the explosion took place in Aybak city, the central district of Samangan province, inside a religious school called Al-Jihadi.

The security forces have reportedly initiated efforts to identify the explosion’s culprits, according to the interior ministry of the current administration.

Local sources said that the explosion targeted the worshipers and the detonation took place in time for noon prayer in the Bandar Street of Aybak city in Samangan province.

Although it has not been confirmed who or which group was responsible for the explosion as it has not solicited immediate responsibility, ISIS claims responsibility for the majority of operations against mosques and other religious places.

The security situation in Afghanistan remains highly volatile as many countries in the international community, recently in the Herat Security Dialogue held in Tajikistan, have renewed their concerns about the resurgence of terrorism in the country following the installation of the current administration. https://www.khaama.com/al-jihadi-seminary-explosion-in-northern-afghanistan-kills-10-people-35684/
