GILGIT, Dec 8: The Election Commission has notified membership of three technocrats and six women in the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly (GBLA) as the seats were distributed among political parties on proportionate basis.
Chief Election Commissioner (CEC) Rahim Nawaz Durrani told Dawn that Jamil Ahmed and Mutabiat Shah of Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) while Maulana Sarwar Shah of Jamiat Ulema Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) was notified as technocrats.
However, PPP secured four out of six women seats – Saadia Danish, Shirin Fatima, Gul Mira and Yasmin Nazar. Mehnaz Wali of the JUI-F and Amna Ansari of the PML-Q also got elected by draw.
SESSION SUMMONED:
Governor Gilgit-Baltistan, Qamar Zaman Kaira has summoned the first session of the Gilgit-Baltistan Legislative Assembly on Thursday at Assembly Hall in Gilgit at 10am.
Officials said that the newly elected members of the assembly would be administered oath during the session. According to the rules, the newly elected members are supposed to take oath within 30 days.
Secretary GBLA Qowat Jan said that arrangements had been finalised for the session. The members would elect speaker and deputy speaker in the first session of the assembly.
The first chief minister of Gilgit-Baltistan would be elected on Dec 11, said a senior official.
