ISLAMABAD: Chairman Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Yasin Malik has strongly opposed the government decision of empowering the Northern Areas of Pakistan and announced that opinion of the people of Kashmir is inevitable in this connection.
He expressed these views while addressing a press conference in Kashmir House on Sunday. AJK Prime Minister Sardar Yaqoob Khan was also present on this occasion. He said that after 1947 Pakistan has always claimed that Pakistan will never leave Kashmiris alone. Pakistan has always reiterated unconditioned support to the cause of Kashmir. But unfortunately the decision without taking the opinion of the Kashmiris is like an arrow let on chests of Kashmiri people.
Yasin Malik said that Prime Minister Syed Yusuf Raza Gilani has claimed to consult all stakeholders before announcing empowerment of the Gilgit and Baltistan but actually these stakeholders are the officials of the Foreign Office.
He further said that whenever the government of the AJK has taken a decision, the leaders of Jammu Kashmir have always endorsed it, however, before taking decision about Gilgit Baltistan, the government must have summoned meeting of the Kashmiri leadership.
He requested that the government of Pakistan must hold dialogues on the issue of Gilgit and Baltistan and if the governor is chosen from the AJK then it would ensure unity of the Jammu Kashmir.
Yasin Malik feared that if the government of Pakistan did not withdraw its decision then India might demand appointment of the governor and chief minister in Jammu Kashmir. He said the people of Kashmir couldn’t impose their opinion on Gilgit and Baltistan; however, Pakistan should not maintain any difference between Gilgit and Baltistan. http://www.thenews.com.pk/top_story_detail.asp?Id=24222
