GILGIT, July 27: The Northern Areas Legislative Assembly will not be able to discuss the budget for the region as after dissolution of the cabinet there is no one to present the budget for 2009-10 in the house.
Speaking at a session of the assembly on Monday, Nala Speaker Malik Mohammad Miskeen said that since the treasury members were no more advisers after dissolution of the cabinet, there would again be seat management in the next session.
He also criticised the chairman of Northern Areas, who is federal minister for Kashmir Affairs and Northern Areas, saying that under the Governance Order, 2004, it was mandatory for the chairman to address the assembly session at the start of financial year and unveil the financial and administrative strategies but he was violating the order.
Mirza Hussain, a member of the assembly, criticised recruitments in the police department, alleging that candidates had to pay Rs50,000 to Rs100,000 for induction in the force.
Sultan Madad called upon the people of the area to get united for achieving their rights.
Meanwhile, a water and food control authority will soon be established in Gilgit, which will later be expanded to other districts of the region.
According to official sources, a PC-I had been submitted in the planning and development department, which would be approved in the next meeting.
They said the authority was being established to ensure quality of drinking water and hygienic food in the region. http://www.dawn.com/wps/wcm/connect/dawn-content-library/dawn/the-newspaper/national/no-nala-debate-over-n.-areas-budget-879
