Deputy Governor Killed in Kabul Blast

Deputy Governor for Kabul, Mahboobullah Mohibi, and his secretary was killed in an IED attack, the Interior ministry confirmed.

MoI spokesman Tariq Arian tweeted the incident happened at around 9:40 a.m. Tuesday morning in Macroryan 4 area of PD9, Kabul.

The deputy mayor was killed when a magnetic IED placed on his Toyota Landcruiser exploded.

According to reports, his secretary was also killed in the incident while two of his bodyguards were wounded.“Such act of terrorists is a war crime and against humanity,” Arian said in a tweet.

In a separate incident, a policeman was killed and two other ANP members were injured in Bagrami district of Kabul city on Tuesday morning, officials said.

The incident occurred at around 6:30 a.m. in the morning, as the policemen had gathered and were warming themselves on porch fire, unknown gunmen opened fire at them, killing one of them instantly.

According to the Kabul police statement, one policeman was killed and another was injured.

An investigation is underway to find the motive behind the attack, the statement read.

This comes as peace negotiations in the country brought new hopes, but instead of reduction, violence escalated.
