17 Taliban Killed in Gov’t Reciprocal Attacks, Uruzgan

Fighting between Taliban and security forces has been going on in Dehrawud district of Uruzgan province since Tuesday night, in which five Afghan security members and 17 Taliban fighters were killed.

A spokesman for the Uruzgan governor, Ahmad Shah Sahil, told media that Taliban insurgents attacked security checkpoints in the Dehrawud district last night, prompting a retaliatory attack by security forces.

He indicated, 17 Taliban including the militant’s deputy commander was killed and six others were wounded in the attack.

In another incident in Uruzgan, eight militants were killed and five others were wounded in another attack on Wednesday Morning, Sahil said.

According to Sahil, five Afghan security members were also killed during the skirmish, and three others are wounded.

Government officials rejected the fall of Dehrawud district to the Taliban.
