HYDERABAD: Altaf Jaskani, a vice chairman of the Sindh Taraqqi-pasand Party (STP), was gunned down in Tando Allahyar on Wednesday.
He was brought to the Liaquat University Hospital (LUH) City branch injured where he breathed his last.
STP chairman Dr Qadir Magsi rushed to the LUH along with other party leaders and workers. He himself confirmed the death of his associate and that his burial would take place in Tando Allahyar.
Mr Jaskani left his home in his car which was ambushed near a railway track off the bypass. Initial reports said that usually two persons accompanied him, but on Wednesday he was alone.
…. Tando Allahyar SSP Rukhsar Khuawar said that police suspected one Aslam Rind’s involvement in the attack because Mr Jaskani had some dispute with him.
Mr Rind had also named Zeeshan Jaskani, Altaf’s younger brother, in an attack on him in 2019 in the backdrop of an ongoing tussle between them.
The SSP said that Aslam did not have any political affiliation, but he had been involved allegedly in land-grabbing cases. Once a complaint was lodged, the case would be properly investigated, he added.
STP central committee member Hyder Mallah said that Aslam Rind used to be in the then Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) before Aug 2016 and then he joined the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf.
He said that in an attack by MQM activists, STP worker Mohammad Ali Rajput was killed. Rajput was a neighbour of Aslam as well.
Dr Qadir Magsi said that Altaf Jaskani had been associated with him since his days in student politics. He was a STP diehard.
