The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC) detained top New JMB leader Abdus Samad alias Arif Mamu alias Ashiq and two others on Wednesday night
Three suspected members of the new faction of the banned militant outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh (New JMB) have been detained from Mohakhali area in Dhaka.
The Counter Terrorism and Transnational Crime unit (CTTC) detained top New JMB leader Abdus Samad alias Arif Mamu alias Ashiq and two others on Wednesday night.
Confirming the matter on Thursday, DMP Deputy Commissioner (media) Masudur Rahman said 200 detonators, five bullets and a pistol were recovered from their possession.
Details regarding the matter will be disclosed in a press briefing later in the day.
According to Rapid Action Battalion, Sarwar Jahan alias Abdur Rahman alias Abu Ibrahim al-Hanif was the chief of New JMB while Gulshan attack mastermind Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury was the second-in-command of the group.
Some other top and second-tier leaders of the New JMB group are Basharuzzaman alias Abul Bashar alias Chocolate, Abdus Samad alias Mamu alias Arif, Sohel Mahfuz alias Hatkata Mahfuz, Mamunur Rashid Ripon, Khalid, Junayed Hasan Khan, Iqbal, Manik, Mamun, Azadul Kabiraz and Badal.http://www.dhakatribune.com/bangladesh/crime/2017/12/14/cttc-top-new-jmb-leader-abdus-samad-2-others-held/
