BNP secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir suggested that the government approach the United Nations to realise Bangladesh’s share of river Teesta’s water from India.
He raised the proposal at the launch of a book on Ziaur Rahman organised by the Ziaur Rahman Research Council at the Dhaka Reporters’ Unity auditorium on Wednesday.
Mirza Fakhrul said the government could not be thanks as it failed to bring back anything from the recent India visit. The government has failed to uphold the interests of the people, he said.
He demanded water sharing as per international law. He said, “What about our rights? Will I be termed anti-Indian simply because I demand my share of water?
Mirza Fakhrul said India has now opened the dams upstream, causing a surge in water and submerging vast regions of Bangladesh.
