67 killed as nearly 800 insurgents launched coordinated attacks in Khost By KHAAMA PRESS – Mon Jul 04 2016

At least 67 militants were killed after a major attack was launched by nearly 800 insurgents in southeastern Khost province of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the coordinated attack was launched jointly by the local and foreign terrorists in Moosa Khel district.

MoD further added that the attack was successfully repulsed by the Afghan security forces and as a result at least 67 militants, including three commanders of them were killed.

At least 23 militants were also wounded during the clashes, MoD said, adding that 3 Dshk heavy machine gun were destroyed during the gun battle.

The anti-government armed militant groups have not commented regarding the report so far.

Khost is among the relatively peaceful provinces in southeastern Afghanistan but the anti-government armed militant groups have recently increased to their insurgency activities in some of the southeastern provinces.

In the meantime, the Taliban-led insurgency has been rampant since the group announced its spring offensive earlier in April this year.

The group has been attempting to launch major coordinated attacks across the country in a bid to undermine the security situation of the country.
