4 policemen martyred, 11 missing following an insider attack in Kandahar KHAAMA PRESS – Tue Mar 01 2016, 7:52 pm

At least four policemen lost their lives in a suspected insider attack in southern Kandahar province of Afghanistan, local officials said Tuesday.

A local security official confirmed the incident and said the attack was carried out by another policeman, apparently having links with the anti-government armed militants.

The security official, speaking on the condition of anonymity, further added that the assailant officer managed to flee the area following the attack, taking with him several weapons and ammunition.

He said at least eleven policemen are also missing following the attack which took place in Shahwli Kot district on Kandahar-Uruzgan highway.

The Taliban militants group claimed responsibility behind the incident and said the assailant officer joined the group after carrying out the attack.

Kandahar province has been witnessing relative peace during the recent months, however the anti-government armed militants have recently stepped up insurgency activities in parts of this province.

This comes as the Afghan intelligence operatives foiled a coordinated suicide car bomb attack in the provincial capital city of Kandahar by arresting four groups of insurgents this week.http://www.khaama.com/4-policemen-martyred-11-missing-following-an-insider-attack-in-kandahar-0221
