The Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation of Afghanistan has announced that 26 Afghan citizens have been released from Pakistani prisons and returned to their country.
The Ministry announced on Thursday on its social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter, that 26 Afghan citizens detained by Pakistani police have been released from custody in Pakistan.
The Ministry has clarified that these 26 Afghan citizens, who were detained by the Pakistani police, have been freed from the custody of Pakistan. On Wednesday, these recently released prisoners were returned to Afghanistan through the Torkham border in Nangarhar province.
Meanwhile, the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriation, in a separate message on its social platform X, has also reported the return of 4,000 Afghan migrants through the Spin Boldak border and the Torkham border. Among them, 216 families consisting of 359 individuals were forcibly returned by the Pakistani police.
Previously, the Pakistani government had warned Afghan citizens who had entered the country illegally, urging them to return to their home country promptly.
Meanwhile, disturbing reports indicate that even Afghan refugees possessing valid documentation have faced harassment and mistreatment from Pakistani police.
These distressing incidents underscore the challenges and vulnerabilities faced by Afghan refugees seeking safety and refuge in Pakistan, highlighting the urgent need for improved protection and support for those fleeing conflict and instability in Afghanistan.
