Police on Saturday night detained at least 200 leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and its student wing Islami Chhatra Shibir from a hotel on the Station Road in Chittagong city.
They had gathered there for a secret meeting to plan anti-state and subversive acts, according to police.
The detainees include Jamaat’s Chittagong city chapter Assistant Secretary AJM Obaidullah. Others are leaders and activists of different tiers of the organizations.
Kotwali police station OC Mohammed Mohsin said, acting on a tip-off, police had conducted a drive at the Motel Saikat of Bangladesh Parjatan Corporation and detained them.
He said the Jamaat and Shibir men had gathered there reportedly to attend a post-Eid-ul-Fitr get-together organized under the banner of a cultural organization named “Parabar” for which they did not take permission from police.https://www.dhakatribune.com/bangladesh/nation/2018/06/24/200-jamaat-shibir-men-held-in-chittagong
