17 Daesh operatives rounded up in countrywide raids Report in The Nation, June 16, 2016

KARACHI: The intelligence agencies on Thursday arrested at least 17 suspected operatives of Daesh, a global terror outfit commonly known as Islamic State, from different parts of the country.

The arrests were made following leads provided by suspects detained by law enforcement agencies couple of days ago.

According to sources, the Daesh suspects were captured from Lahore, Karachi, Nowshera, Sargodha and Dera Ismail Khan.

The investigation from the arrested suspects is underway.

Meanwhile, Pakistan Foreign Office has been denying presence of Daesh in the country, claiming that the terrorist outfit had no organized presence in Pakistan.

However in February this year, Director General Intelligence Bureau Aftab Sultan to the standing committee on interior said that hundreds of people have left Pakistan to fight in Syria.

He said the Islamic State group was emerging as a threat in the country because several militant groups had soft corner for it. He specifically named Lashkar-i-Jhangvi and Sipah-i-Sahaba Pakistan as examples.

The IB chief said terrorists were reorganising and stressed the need for a border control mechanism, particularly with Afghanistan, implementation of the National Action Plan and de-radicalisation policy with a focus on counter-narrative. http://nation.com.pk/national/16-Jun-2016/17-daesh-operatives-rounded-up-in-countrywide-raids
