11 killed, 80 injured in Muzaffarabad suicide hit

MUZAFFARABAD- At least 11 people were killed and dozens injured in a suicide bombing that ripped through an Imambargah in ‘Azad’ Kashmir’s main city on Sunday.
The suicide bomber detonated his explosives in a Muharram procession in Muzaffarabad. “When the volunteers spotted the suicide bomber and challenged him, he blew himself up,” local religious leader Maulvi Kifayat told a private TV channel.
Raja Kafil Ahmad, spokesman for the Azad Kashmir government, said 11 people had died while more than 65 were injured.
One witness said he saw body parts on the street believed to be those of the suicide bomber.
“It was a suicide attack. The bomber was trying to enter inside the Imambargah. Several people have been injured. I fear some people may be dead,” police official Yaseen Baig told AFP at the scene..
The teenaged bomber detonated his suicide jacket as the small procession from Neelam valley’s Mirpura village was passing through a security barrier at the entry point to a street off the CMH Road that leads to Imambargah Pir Alam Shah Bukhari.
Chaudhry Imtiaz, deputy commissioner said this is the third suicide attack in (Azad) Kashmir. “The whole country is under threat and we are facing the same situation. We have taken extraordinary security measures,” Mr Qayyum said.
Security has been beefed up in the city and the Army was called out to assist the civil administration to maintain law and order.
