Local officials in Nimroz said that 100 Afghan citizens in prison in Iran were handed over to Islamic Emirate officials.
According to local officials, some of these prisoners have spent 10 to 20 years of imprisonment in Iran and are going to spend the rest of their imprisonment in Afghanistan’s prisons.
Afghan citizens were in prison for various crimes, and have been handed over to the Islamic Emirate based on the prisoner exchange agreement between the two countries.
“According to the agreement of the foreign ministries of the Islamic Emirate and Iran, 100 prisoners have been transferred to Nimroz from Iran,” said Khial Mohammad Nusrat, acting director of foreign relations in Nimroz.
“Their cases have been entrusted to the committee and after an investigation they will be sent to court and they will have some meetings in court,” said Mohammad Yosuf Mistary, general head of the country prisons.
Some of these prisoners urged the current government to forgive their remaining sentences and return them to their families.
“We call on the Islamic Emirate to release us because we face so many challenges there,” said Nougul, a prisoner.
“Since we were in Iran, we prisoners wanted to be delivered to the Islamic Emirate as soon as possible,” said Ismail, a prisoner.
